Sow from seed in spring or divide established clumps. Chives will self-seed readily once established. Plant in the front of a border or in containers — they are tidy enough for ornamental planting.Cutting Back
Cut the entire plant to within 5cm of the ground two or three times during the growing season. This rejuvenates the plant and produces fresh, bright growth. Freeze cut leaves for winter use.Dividing
Divide established clumps in autumn every 3–4 years to maintain vigour. Replant divisions generously spaced — they spread readily.Soil: Most soils tolerated. Prefer fertile, moist but well-drained ground.
