Foeniculum vulgare dulce

Not to be confused with Herb Fennel, Florence Fennel is grown mainly for it's bulbous stem base. Delecious when braised and served with olive oil and black pepper. Can also be eaten raw in salads.

Florence Fennel Growing Notes

Sowing

Sow 1cm deep and 50cm between rows. Ideal if planted in the herbacious border.

Pruning & Thining

Thin seedlings to 25cm apart. Water well and earth up around the bulbs as they swell.

Harvesting

When they have reached Cricket ball size, start to lift and eat.
