The artichoke is the flower of a thistly looking plant. Very tall and quite ornamental in appearance. Plant in the Herbacious border to add structure. You can start harvesting the flowers in the 2nd year.

Globe Artichokes Growing Notes

Sowing

Plant offsets of globe artichokes 80cm apart and 3cm deep, or plant seeds 15cm apart and thin as required. After 1st year replant seedlings the same as the offsets.

Pruning & Thining

Keep well watered and feed regularly.

Harvesting

Harvest in the second year. Cut the heads while still green.
