A true sign of summer in the vegetable garden. Tall bamboo pyramids covered in green foliage with small red flowers. If the spring is too warm the flowers may drop before they can be pollinated. The roots produce Nitrogen and should be left in the ground to fertalize the earth.

Runner Beans Growing Notes


Sow under glass if there is the slightest risk of frost. Build bamboo supports firset and then plant out two plants per cane.

Pruning & Thining

Remove the weaker of the two plants per cane leaving the strongest to florish. Keep the soil moist


Pick the pods when they are 20cm long. Keep picking the pods to encourage more flowers.
